Another mess of weather on the way! How do you dress for the weather we get now?
We have all heard the tales of hardships from the past. Parents that had to walk uphill both ways to school in nose deep snow and leaky boots with bread bags on their feet. I have to believe the tales from Mom as the driveway to the house on the hill dips down from the road before climbing up the hill to the house, so technically the uphill both ways is true.
Now back in the old days winter came and when it warmed up and the snow melted it was spring. It was a lot easier to prepare for weather like that. Winter boots had to be warm and keep the snow out and then when there was rain in the spring, it was warm enough for rubber boots to repel the water. Not the case with our current climate. Winter boots that repel water and grip ice are even more important that warmth in the snow.
In many cases there is care needed to ensure the water doesn’t ruin your boots. What is the best practice to keep boots warm and waterproof?
How to waterproof your winter wear
Hope that helps you. I use mink oil on mine and it seems to help a lot.
Secretly, I am still hoping for some freezing temperatures and snow before winter is over, but I won’t say it out loud.
This is neat, a homemade waterproofing recipe.
