The government of Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston has committed a $5 million investment for the rehabilitation of trails throughout the province that bore the brunt of damage caused by the July floods.
Numerous local organizations in our region are set to benefit from this funding injection, which includes:
- Adventure Trail
- Bay to Bay Trail
- Dynamite Trail
- LaHave River Trail
- South Shore/Annapolis Valley Recreational Trail
MLA for Lunenburg, Susan Corkum-Greek, highlighted the year-round allure of these trails, from serene strolls to invigorating cross-country skiing and adrenaline-pumping ATV excursions. She underscored the significance of trail restoration in nurturing a vibrant and active community.
To facilitate the distribution of funds and assist local groups in their efforts, the non-profit organization NS Trails will play a pivotal role. These funds will cover the costs associated with contracting professionals for trail repair work and provide reimbursements to community groups upon successful completion of their restoration projects. Moreover, if further damage is identified, additional trails could be included in the restoration efforts.
