What do the names Willow, Winnie, Whisper and West have in common? They are all names given to the RCMP horses for 2023.
The results of the RCMP “Name the Foal” contest are in and the list includes a very special name offered by a student from Nova Scotia. In a Facebook post the RCMP note that Finn from Garlands Crossing, Nova Scotia suggested Wynn as a tribute to Cst. David Wynn, who was killed in the line of duty in 2015.
The RCMP have been breeding horses for the past 80 years and here are the 12 names given to this year’s foals:

- Wales – Matéo, Ottawa, Ontario (selected from the Open House)
- Wayacawiw – Napew, Kinistino, Saskatchewan
- Winnie – Kinsley, Winnipegosis, Manitoba
- Warrant – Gavin, Pilot Butte, Saskatchewan
- Worden – Leo, Prince George, British Columbia
- Wilde – Alexie-Eve, Limoges, Ontario
- Wynn – Finn, Garlands Crossing, Nova Scotia
- Willow – Danica, Fredericton, New Brunswick
- Wasabi – Joséphine, Quebec, Quebec
- Whisper – Alyvia, Wheatley River, Prince Edward Island

RCMP Name the Foal contest produces 12 names for our new foals
I think it is pretty cool that not only did these youth get to name possible future performers for the Musical Ride, they each get a horseshoe from the RCMP Musical Ride.
