Here we are, back from the weekend. The first one with the sport fishing season open for 2023. If you were out dipping a line this weekend, I hope it was productive and not just drowning worms. I feel like today’s celebration of “Fish Fingers and Custard Day” is for those of us that did not catch anything on the line.
Fish fingers, or sticks as I have most often heard them called, have been around for a long time. I remember an old friend telling me about his role with High Liner when fish sticks were launched locally. The tasty fish bites have been around for over 60 years, originally from across the pond, but the invention was connected to Canada.
THE FISH FINGER
Now it would seem that fingers are not the only appendage that are being created for fish lovers. Yesterday I stumbled on wings! Yeah, that’s right, Fish Wings!! Now of course I picture this:
But these are just hunks of fish battered and ready for dipping. The name makes me question authenticity of products and drives home the whole idea of judging a book by its cover… or a product by its name, haha. I guess this is not much different than the idea of “Boneless Wings” except these are made with fish and not chicken. Come to think of it, there are many examples of things named wrong. Buffalo can’t fly either, so “Buffalo Wings???” Then there are the ones that are so common we don’t even thing of it anymore, like “Hotdogs”.
8 items with names that are made entirely of lies
I guess what it all boils down to is regardless of the name, good food it to be enjoyed no matter what we call it.
Still think I will pass on the “Fish Wings”
There is a recipe if your would like to make your own, and this guy makes them sound good actually.
