As I yawn typing this, I am thinking how much I dislike the heat that we have been experiencing over the past week. The only saving grace is that things are cooling down a bit at night, but is it enough?
There is no doubt that things are heating up. Remember when a day that hit the high twenties was HOT? Now we have just gone through a week with a heat warning and record high temperatures in the thirties. So as things do warm up, what can we expect? Drier conditions seem to be a for sure thing and apparently less sleep. A study was conducted in over 60 countries looking at sleep trends and the results show that on average 45 hours of sleep is lost annually due to the hotter temperatures.
Hot nights are disrupting our sleep — and climate change is making it worse
So what can we do, aside from moving our bedrooms to the basement? What if we could trick our body into sleeping??
There is a group of Bioengineers at the University of Texas have developed a new mattress and pillow system that uses body temperature adjustment to trick you into a better night’s sleep.
Sweet dreams: Meet the mattress that tells your body when it’s bedtime
Until we can get the new body tricking mattress, is there anything we can do to get enough sleep?
