For many this will be the end of an era. For some the upcoming change will remind them of the way things were. By 2025 many of the plastic items that we have always used are going to disappear.
Now if you remember the wooden two prong popsicle stick that used to be given as the “cutlery” for your fish and chips at the local fair, then things might be a bit easier to swallow. But for those that only know the plastic forks, knives and spoons, this announcement could be a shocker.
Government will ban some single-use plastics over the next 18 months
We have already been dealing with the disappearance of plastic bags and many places are now handing out the ‘hurry up straws’… the straws made out of paper that give you a small window to drink through them before the turn to mush. I wonder if this announcement could mean the comeback of the wooden ice cream sticks we had in elementary school. I swear the stick had more flavor than the little cup of vanilla ice cream did, haha.
Funny thing is that only a few decades ago the messages around plastic were very different.
Think about all the things that we use even in our morning routine that are made of plastic. Most razors have at least some plastic parts, your toothbrush, most soap/shampoo and deodorant, all in plastic. There could be big changes coming.
