There could be many names for our local weather predicting creature. The Forecasting Forager, or maybe the Climate Crustacean, but we just call her Lucy. She decided that if a land beaver (aka groundhog) can become famous for seasonal predictions, then why can’t a lobster. So for the past few years Lucy the Lobster has been changing the traditional look of February 2nd.
Again this year we are ramping up to the 8am dip of destiny when Lucy will go where most captive lobsters never go and battle the waves to tell us when spring will arrive. Should you trade the winter jacket for shorts, or look at replacing those mittens with the holes in them? All will be known at 8am and you can watch live!
Now I know there are some of you that might want to contact the South Shore’s local forecasting critter, so here is Lucy’s twitter link as well. I am sure she will answer after she is finished with her Shellfie. https://twitter.com/LucyLobsterNS
For those of you that are traditionalists, Shubenacadie Sam is still doing his job. He is known for being the most accurate when it comes to predicting spring in the woodchuck world. According to Wikipedia:
Shubenacadie Sam has an accuracy rate of about 45%, compared to 39% for Punxsutawney Phil and 25% for Wiarton Willy.
So if you would rather watch the proven pro’s prediction, here is the link to Shubenacadie Sam’s live feed.
I tend to side with what my Dad always said, the calendar says there are 6 more weeks of winter regardless of what the critters predict, but it is still a fun day.
Happy Groundhog/Lobster Day
