Burr, winter is here. Not going to lie, I miss the old fashioned winters. I know that statement means a lot of different things to different people. When I hear people my Mom’s age say that, they talk about tonnes of snow and bitter cold that lasted for the whole season. I remember back even 20 years ago when things would get cold and stay that way for at least a few weeks. When snowbanks were big enough for tunnels and every snow wasn’t always mixed with rain or thawing the next day. But, that does not seem to be the case this year.
As we are looking at another rain/snow scenario heading into the weekend, let’s talk about winter activities. What is your favorite thing to do during the winter?
I love snowshoeing! I am talking about the old fashioned, drag the tails, need a decent amount of snow to enjoy snowshoeing. A few years back I was in my glory when the snow was over 5 feet is some areas and wearing snowshoes was the only way to get around, that was great.
One thing that the snow/rain mix is good for, tobogganing/coasting. The speed down a decent hill with ice covered snow, just awesome.
So what about you, what is your favorite winter activity? Here are a few listed as must dos in Canada:
If you enjoy the outdoors, but you need a little incentive to get going in the winter… Recreation Nova Scotia is offering just that. “Take the Roof Off Winter” is tasking you with completing a list of activities over the next couple of months. There are even monthly prizes.
