Today is a day to reflect on a past that is just hard to believe is reality.
It’s the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
A day to honour not only the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, but also their families and communities.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
There are a number of things happening around the South Shore today and even some events tomorrow. Some of these events are not only to recognize today, but also the start of Mi’kmaq History Month which starts tomorrow. The town of Lunenburg will hold a flag raising tomorrow and as you visit the town, look for the artwork on display in the town.

Student Artwork Honouring Indigenous Children
Ms. Hunt’s grade 5 class at Bluenose Academy painted feathers to honour the Indigenous children who have been found. Today, students attached their feathers on the light poles of Lincoln Street and Montague Street in their remembrance.
The Town was invited to share this tribute. Recreation Director, Kelly Cunningham, joined the students who have been learning in school about the importance of feathers in the Mi’kmaq community to show respect and honour.
