Liberal candidate Susan MacLeod is running in the riding of Queens.
The former Municipal Councilor for the Region of Queens Municipality has previously worked in cable television, owned a printing business, and has been involved with many local committees and organizations, several of which she is still involved with.
MacLeod said the housing crisis is one of the biggest issues being faced by her constituents.
“With a lot of homes being sold and a lot of tenants being displaced, we need really good safe housing for them. That’s a big issue,” said MacLeod. “It was an issue before but things have really sped that up with the pandemic.”
She added the Liberal plan to address the housing crisis includes funding to add affordable housing units, and upgrades to energy efficiency in public housing.
She also said she’s passionate about health care and the recent closures at emergency rooms such as Queens General need to be addressed.
“This past summer it has been closed several times,” MacLeod explained. “I understand that the physicians were not available to take those hours and that was a very serious situation.”
She said the Liberals plan to invest in long term care facilities including Queens Manor in Liver and Hillsview Acres which will either be replaced or significantly improved to provide safe care for seniors.
She added that they also plan to increase the number of registered midwives.
Macleod is running against PC Incumbent Kim Masland, NDP candidate Mary Dahr, and Green Party candidate Brian Muldoon in the newly named riding of Queens.
