Following a relatively mild winter, many South Shore golf clubs will be opening early this year and in some cases are already open.
Clubs were forced to remain closed last year, (until May 16) due to COVID-19 restrictions. This year, with plans are already in place to reduce the risk of spreading the virus.
The River Hills Golf Club, Yarmouth Links, and West Pubnico are are already open for 2021, but many more will be joining them before the end of the month.
Osprey Ridge in Bridgewater and Chester Golf Club both plan to open on Thursday, April 15.
Osprey President, Bill Sampson says the course there is already looking healthy, “I’ve heard from people that it’s the best the club has ever looked, at this point in the year so we are excited for people to get out there,” he said
Sampson says as the game of golf already allows for physical distancing the industry has weathered the pandemic relatively well.
Sampson adds Osprey has seen a surge in interest among young golfers, “A few years ago, our juniors program only had about four kids in it, now we have over 40 and the program is really something we are trying to promote.”
Bluenose Golf Club in Lunenburg plans to open this weekend. Originally Bluenose had hoped to open on Friday but based on forecasts calling for rain around Friday they pushed opening day back to April 18.
The following week the region’s two golf resorts; White Point and Sherwood Golf & Country Club plan to open for play with those courses targeting April 24 and April 30 respectively.
Aspotogan Ridge is also planning to tentatively open, April 24.
All dates listed are weather permitting and subject to change.
