New mask-wearing policies go into effect in Thunder Bay today and Minnesota tomorrow.
A survey finds a large majority of Canadians supporting those measures.
Narrative Research finds 83 per cent say they would support making masks mandatory in public places.
Spokesperson Margaret Chapman says the support depends on where you live in the country.
“The level of support for making a move towards mandatory mask-wearing was lower in Atlantic Canada and actually lower in New Brunswick than it is anywhere in the country,” she notes.
Support for mandatory mask-wearing was highest in Ontario at 90 per cent.
Chapman says the results are somewhat surprising since most people are not wearing a mask now.
Overall support is generally consistent regardless of age, gender or household income, although those aged 55 and up are most likely to voice complete support.
More than 1200 Canadian adults recently took part in the online survey from July 9-11.
