Many PEI residents are awaiting news today to see if Public Health officials will have more COVID-19 cases to report.
Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Heather Morrison announced two more positive cases yesterday.
They are both men in their 20’s, and are both close contacts of one of the cases reported on Saturday,
On Saturday, three cases were reported. One case is a man in his 20’s, who travelled to Nova Scotia and was in contact with someone from the United States. Dr. Morrison says the man was also Asymptomatic.
The second case is related to the first. It is a woman in her 20’s who works for Whisperwood Villa, a long term care home. . A total of 129 residents and 140 staff members of Whisperwood Villa were tested and had a negative test result. All residents and staff will be re-tested later this week as an added precaution.
The third case is a man in his 50’s. He is an essential worker, who travelled outside the region, but self isolated upon return.
This brings the total number of cases in Prince Edward Island to five.
Health officials in Prince Edward Island believe the risk of transmission of COVID-19 remains low.
Premier Dennis King was asked about whether the Atlantic bubble is now at risk, “I haven’t talked to any of my Atlantic colleagues directly since our announcement. But we have said from the very beginning if we need to pull back, then we would. If the Public health information and the Epidemiology points in that direction, then we would be prepared to pull back next week, if that’s where the information points to.”
Contact tracing is underway for the two new cases.
