New hangers are on the way for Greenfield airport.
Region of Queens council have given the South Shore Flying Club the go-ahead to sub-lease land owned by the municipality.
That could increase the number of hangers to eight from the existing two.
Glen Parlee says their club has always been permitted to build hangers, but the change will allow outside groups to build their own.
“We want to be sustainable so we really need to get some hangers built and if that’s another avenue we can take to get the first couple of hangers built then we’re all for that.”
Parlee says the construction will allow members to store their aircraft as well as help provide additional income to support the upkeep of the airport.
“And now that the club has taken over the operation of the airport for the region, they know there’s a future there and that generates the interest.”
Parlee says the runway is already one of the best in the province.
He says the club is working on the expansion plan and hopes to see construction on the new hangers early next year.
