Petite Riviere will be recognized for its exemplary civic and community spirit.
The Lunenburg County community has been named one of this year’s recipients of the Lieutenant Governor’s Community Spirit Award.
The award celebrates the power, strength and diversity of vibrant communities across the province.
Phyillis Price, board member with the Greater Petite Area Community Association, says the community goes above and beyond those qualities.
“Citizenship participation, community engagement, ability to form partnerships, people working really hard to find solutions to challenges and there is an openness to new approaches and resiliency.
Other winners this year include Glace Bay, Port Williams and Potlotek First Nation.
Price says the announcement wouldn’t have been possible without support from eleven communities in the Petite catchment zone.
“This is all the more of a testimonial to what an energetic and vibrant place these communities are in which to live.”
The lieutenant governor will attend a community celebration to present an original piece of Nova Scotian Crystal.
Price expects that to happen in late August or early September at Petite Riviere Elementary School.
