Gold will be coming home to Queens County from the Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg.
Brooklyn’s Sarah Mitton won the women’s shot put with a top toss of 15.61 metres.
She defeated her nearest competitor by more than half a metre.
The 21 year-old, who attends the University of Windsor, is preparing to compete at the World University Games from August 19-30 in Taipei.
It’s the first gold medal for Nova Scotia at the 2017 games.
Earlier this week, Yarmouth’s Ryan Shay captured the first medal for the Bluenosers after finishing second in the para discus.
Nova Scotia has a total of eight medals and sits seventh in the standings. Ontario leads with 52 medals including 21 gold.
