A number of South Shore athletes are in Brampton, Ontario for this year’s 55+ Games.
That includes Mike Bailey of Lunenburg, a first time competitor in the games.
Bailey along with Mike Bollivar and Arnold Langille are playing with the Henderson Pirates, the only Nova Scotia team in the 55+ division.
The 55 year-old husband of Lunenburg Mayor Rachel Bailey says he’s proud to be selected.
“I’ve been playing hockey all my life and never really had the opportunity to participate in anything at this level so it’s kind of neat.”
Bailey says he anticipates the competition will be strong.
He says there is a good mix of players on the 55+ team.
“We’ve got some speed and then we’ve got some steady defenceman. We actually have good goaltending as well, which many say at this level is key.”
The Henderson Pirates lost their opening game, 6-4 to the Brampton 55’s.
They are back on the ice at 10:30 Wednesday morning in their second game of the tournament.
Other Nova Scotia hockey teams are participating in the women’s 55+ and in the men’s 60+ and 65+ divisions.
