A group of young soccer players from Lunenburg and Queens counties are in search of a Canadian championship.
The South Shore United Under-14 boys soccer team are in St. John’s, Newfoundland for nationals.
They flew out early this morning before opening ceremonies on Wednesday.
Coach Kirk Herman expects the competition to be tough.
“They are going to have to play five games in five days, so that’s a pretty big feat for any athlete but we’re ready.”
Seventeen players were expected to make the trip.
Herman says the trip would not have been possible without community support.
“We’ve had so much support from local businesses, families, organizations, everybody has really chipped in. We have had donations from across the board from one end of the region to the other.”
The boys team play St. John’s SC in their first game Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m.
