If you love boats, then Mahone Bay is the place to be this coming weekend August 3rd through 5th, 2018.
It’s the Mahone Bay Heritage Boatyard Weekend and it pays tribute to the Town’s long standing boat building heritage by delving into the world of wooden boat building and all things boat related.
There will be demonstrations conducted by the Mahone Bay Wooden Boat Society and if all goes according to plan, they’ll have a brand new 16′ x 20′ boatbuilding shed in place along the Main Street.
“It’s an enclosed structure which will allow them to do their demonstration boatbuilding during inclement weather and it’s closer to the street so tourists and so on will have an open door to go in and see what’s going on,” says Keith Pomeroy, Chairman of the Mahone Bay Wooden Boat Society.
This weekend’s festival takes place at various locations throughout Mahone Bay including the Civic Marina, Town Wharf and places in between.
“We’re looking forward to this, we’re hoping that this will create some tourism, some interest in the community and for the tourists who pass through Mahone Bay,” says Darryl Haley, President of the Heritage Boatyard Co-op.
