It’s the time of year where colours of the rainbow proudly fly in many communities across the province, the Country and around the world.
And those colours, are the colours of PRIDE.
A true sign of acceptance and inclusivity in our communities, true support for the LGBTQ community.
This Friday, July 20th 2018, the Town of Lunenburg will raise the PRIDE Flag to show its support during PRIDE month.
“Give visibility for the LGBTQ community; I moved back here with my family after being gone for a very long time and my wife and I decided that we wanted to bring our kids back and raise them where we grew up,” says Shelley Rafuse, Chair of Lunenburg Pride.
Rafuse says as a closeted gay female growing up, there was no support so to now be a part of something like this today, is certainly a positive step forward.
“I know that these things exist now, and to be a part of creating future things for my children to enjoy is really important,” says Rafuse, adding, “it’s really important to me and to this organization.”
The Pride Flag will be raised in front of Lunenburg Town Hall (119 Cumberland St.) starting at 12pm.
Just last week, the City of Halifax raised the Pride Flag and tomorrow, Tuesday July 17th, the Pride Flag will be raised outside the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg Administration Building in Bridgewater (210 Aberdeen Rd.) at 11:30am.
