More new equipment is coming to South Shore Hospitals courtesy of the Health Services Foundation of the South Shore.
The Foundation spent $80,000 on five pieces of equipment for South Shore Regional and Fisherman’s Memorial hospitals.
Pulmonary function test units will be going to each hospital, a new ventilator to South Shore and a paediatric crash cart for the Emergency Department at Fisherman’s.
The Health Services Foundation’s Arleen Stevens says the children’s crash cart is different from an adult’s in some important ways.
“The crash cart actually is colour coded, depending on the size of the patient and the pieces of equipment that might be needed in that urgent situation.”
Stevens says these items wear out and need to be replaced over time.
“The Vision Bipap (ventilator) is ten years old. It was a $35,000 piece of equipment. An expensive item, but critical for use here at South Shore Regional.”
Stevens says while some items are purchased through specific fundraisers like Radiothon, the money for these came from a general fund the foundation maintains to buy equipment as it’s needed.
