A fire has forced a temporary closure of the Halifax and Southwestern Railway Museum. The museum, which is dedicated to preserving rich railroading heritage, suffered moderate smoke damage during last weekend’s blaze at the building in Centre. Owner Duane Porter says there is layer of soot over the displays and it will take some time to clean it all up. He says luckily nothing in the museum was lost in the fire. He says, “These things that we have here are treasures for the people, for the community. This was our history, our past and people like to make sure these things are kept safe.” Porter doesn’t haven’t a firm date when the museum will re-open, but is optimistic it will be sometime next week.
