Canada’s Men’s National Soccer Team will visit Halifax for the first time this June, hosting an open training session at Wanderers Grounds ahead of the international FIFA window.
The session will give fans in Nova Scotia a chance to watch the national squad train as they prepare for the newly launched Canadian Shield tournament. Canada is set to face Ukraine on June 7 and Côte D’Ivoire on June 10, both at BMO Field in Toronto.
Canada Soccer is partnering with the Halifax Wanderers to host the event. It follows a similar open session held in Montréal last October that drew strong fan support.
“We’re thrilled to once again take our Men’s National Team to a new city in Canada,” said Head Coach Jesse Marsch. “We had a very positive experience in Montréal with an open training session last year, and I’m glad we can do it again with our first-ever official visit to Halifax. The country deserves to see this team ahead of our upcoming home FIFA World Cup.”
Halifax Wanderers Founder and President Derek Martin says hosting the national team is a long-time goal for the club and the city.
“From a personal perspective, this is the realization of one of my dreams when building the stadium at the Wanderers Grounds eight years ago,” Martin said. “We’re proud to be a part of helping to bring the team to Nova Scotia.”
This marks the first visit from the men’s program to Halifax. Canada Soccer’s Women’s National Team played the first-ever national team match in the city in October 2023, defeating Brazil 2–0 at Wanderers Grounds.
Further details about the men’s team training session, including schedule and public access, will be released in the coming weeks.
