Bridgewater Town Council has approved its 2025-2026 operating and capital budgets, keeping property tax rates unchanged for both residential and commercial properties.
The town’s new operating budget totals just under $34 million, marking an increase over last year. On the capital side, council approved close to $17 million in new project spending, along with a significant amount of previously approved projects still underway.
Infrastructure continues to be a major focus. Over $11 million is allocated to wastewater system upgrades to support future growth and environmental improvements. Nearly $3 million is set aside for roadwork, including projects on St. Phillips Street, Empire Street, and a right-turn lane addition near the Veterans Memorial Bridge. Sidewalk upgrades are also receiving additional funding.
Bridgewater is investing in public spaces, with continued work to protect parkland trees from invasive pests. Recreation spending will support the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre, outdoor swimming facilities, playgrounds, and trails.
The town is also maintaining its commitment to community-focused programs. Funding will continue for events like Canada Day and Music on the Riverbank. Energy programs aimed at helping residents reduce utility costs remain a priority, and financial supports are in place for low-income households and local nonprofits.
