The Mahone Bay Fire Department is organizing a charity breakfast and silent auction to support one of its members, Dennis LeBlanc, who suffered a medical emergency while responding to a fire.
On November 29, LeBlanc was manning a hose alongside his partner, Captain Connor Veinot, during a fire response. Veinot noticed LeBlanc was struggling with the hose and eventually encouraged him to rest in the recovery area.
On-site nurses and EHS staff attended to LeBlanc, who was taken to a local hospital for testing. Doctors later discovered multiple blocked arteries.
LeBlanc has since undergone heart surgery and is recovering, but he remains unable to work as a self-employed individual without insurance.
“We decided to help because he’s self-employed and doesn’t have insurance,” Veinot explained. “I offered to take the lead since he was my partner that day and felt responsible for stepping up.”
Donations are being accepted for the silent auction, with all proceeds going toward supporting LeBlanc during his recovery.
The charity breakfast and silent auction are planned for early 2025, with exact dates to be announced in the coming weeks.
Those interested in making a donation can contact Veinot at (902) 298-1528 or drop off donations at Mahone Bay Town Hall during business hours.
