A safer drive if you live in Bridgewater and improved access to Highway 103 for local businesses, with the opening of a new interchange.
The nearly $70 million project was a joint investment between Ottawa, the province and the Town.
There is now a new exit, 12A, that connects to not only the Bridgewater Business Park but to about 50 hectares of land on the north side of the highway.
In addition to that, there is a new diamond interchange at 12A, the replacement of the St. Phillips Street overpass bridge and auxiliary lanes connecting Exit 12A and Exit 13.
On Behalf of Public Works Minister Fred Tilley, Justice Minister Becky Druhan says, “This interchange will help keep heavy truck traffic off local roads, making driving in the area safer and improving traffic flow for everyone.”
“This project also makes it easier for local businesses to transport their goods and expands the potential for new ventures to open their doors as the business park expands.”
The Town of Bridgewater says included in the work was realigning intersections, water and sewer improvements and a new connector road from St. Phillips Street to the newly opened business park lands.
Mayor David Mitchell says they are extremely grateful to the province and federal government for their roles in this “game-changing” project that took more than 5 years of hard work.
“Not only does the new interchange provide direct highway access to and from our business park for truck traffic, as well as residents and travelers alike, but it also opens up more than 100 acres of land for future industrial and commercial development.”
