Editor’s note: The following story contains disturbing information related to a tragic death at a Walmart in Halifax. Please be advised.
A GoFundMe page has been launched to support the family of a 19-year-old woman who tragically lost her life in a workplace incident at the Walmart on Mumford Road in Halifax.
The fundraiser, organized by members of the local community, is intended to help the grieving family through this incredibly difficult time.
According to the GoFundMe page, the woman’s mother, who also works at Walmart, is in urgent need of support as the family faces overwhelming emotional and financial challenges.
The young woman has been identified as Gursimran Kaur and the fundraiser is being organized by Maritime Sikh Society Executive.
”Gursimran’s mother tried to locate her after not seeing for one hour. She asked around, but everyone brushed aside thinking that she may be somewhere helping a customer,” read the post on GoFundMe. “Her phone was not reachable. Mother started panicking as it was unusual for her to switch her phone off during the day. She reached out to the onsite admin for help. As you all know now, her remains were found inside the walk in oven in the Bakery after a few hours.”
The funds raised will be used to assist with immediate expenses, including efforts to bring the woman’s father and brother from India to be with the family.
“Imagine the horror that her mother experienced who herself opened the oven.”
All donations will go directly to the family.
The investigation into what occurred at the Walmart is also still underway by the Halifax Regional Police.
As of Thursday, the store also remains closed.
