By this time next week it will all be over.
Next Monday, April 8, 2024 we will experience a total solar eclipse. This event will be the first since 1972 where this much of the sun is covered by an eclipse in this area.
Since this is the first event like this in over 50 years, there are many experiencing the eclipse for the first time and it seems anticipation is being challenged by concern around what the day will look like. I remember as a kid we had a solar eclipse, but it was not to the level of totality this one will be.
Eclipse path of totality
There are parts of the country that are extremely worried about April 8th as parts of Canada have been marked as some of the best places in the world to see the eclipse. The Niagara region of Ontario has even declared a state of emergency for the day as they anticipate huge crowds gathering to witness this once in a lifetime event.
So how can you prepare for next Monday?
There are some suggestions that you need to make sure you have stocked up on gas and groceries and need to stay inside with the curtains drawn. Other reports suggest less urgency, but the one thing in common around suggested solar eclipse preparedness is protecting your eyesight.
Eclipse Eye Safety
In our area school is still on for the day and in many cases, students have had safety glasses provided to them. Try to take in the event and we will hope the weather cooperates for Mondays historic happening. As of this morning the predicted conditions don’t look too bad according to Environment Canada “Monday, April 8 – A mix of sun and cloud. High 8”
