A lot of things that we know and enjoy are changing to better the environment. This could be the next norm that adjusts celebrations in the future.
I have always loved fireworks. I remember some great shows and I also remember as a kid if we were making hay on Canada Day, you could see the different coloured lights in the sky as communities set them off. Bridgewater and New Germany always had their displays about 30 minutes apart and you could see the lights as the fireworks were set off miles from the hay field.
In recent years it seems that fireworks displays are not as welcomed by all. It has become more common for folks to express concern when there is an upcoming fireworks display than the traditional excitement and anticipation. Concerns about animals being scared by the noise, smoke in the air from the explosions and paper debris from the exploding fireworks are often listed as reasons for fireworks displays to not happen. Looks like 2024 will be the year that a potential solution to these listed concerns is tested by one of the biggest events in the province, the Wharf Rat Rally.
This August will be your chance to see what this alternative to traditional fireworks looks like in person. There are a few videos from shows that have been popping up over the past couple of years. Just to give you an idea of what this could be like, here is a video to hold you over until the summer.
