Chester, Nova Scotia – Lunenburg District RCMP has laid multiple charges against a 33-year-old Halifax man following a dangerous driving incident in Lunenburg County.
On September 28, 2023, around 4:50 p.m., Lunenburg District RCMP received a report of a driving complaint on Hwy. 103 in Chester. Witnesses reported that a Dodge Avenger was driving erratically on the highway and had collided with vehicles from behind. The Avenger continued its reckless journey eastbound on Hwy. 103, ramming another vehicle and attempting to pass on the inside shoulder of the road.
Given the severity of the situation, Lunenburg District RCMP requested assistance from Halifax District RCMP. Officers from Halifax District RCMP located the Avenger on Hwy. 103 in Upper Tantallon, where it was still traveling at a dangerously high speed. An attempted traffic stop ensued, but the Avenger rammed into a police car before coming to a halt. The driver of the stolen vehicle was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect, a 33-year-old Halifax man, initially refused to identify himself, and officers noted signs of impairment. Subsequently, he was subjected to an Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand, which he also refused. The man was then transported to the Bridgewater Rural Detachment and placed in custody.
Further investigation revealed that the Dodge Avenger had been reported stolen earlier that day from the Pinehurst area of Lunenburg County.
The accused, whose identity has not been disclosed in accordance with Canadian Press Style Guidelines, is facing a litany of charges, including Assault with a Weapon (3 counts), Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance (4 counts), Failure to Stop at the Scene of an Accident (3 counts), Flight from Police, Refusal of a Lawful Demand, Obstruction of a Peace Officer, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, and Possession of Stolen Property. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in Bridgewater Provincial Court later today.
