I remember as a kid we used to always sit up and watch the lightning during a severe thunderstorm. We have an ash tree in one field that has been hit 2 or 3 times, there is a groove that goes right down the side of the tree to the ground. In the nearby woods I remember seeing a hemlock that was hit and that was reduced to splinters. As storms are predicted to get stronger in the future, will this be a more common occurrence?
