Wasn’t that rainy weekend the best ever?
Many Mondays I have heard co-workers complain about rain on the weekend, but I have a feeling today will be a bit different. The cold rainy weather was a welcome change from the dry hot sunny weather that had created the tinder dry conditions of late. Thanks to the moisture that has come our way and what is predicted as we start the first week of June, conditions are becoming less favorable for fire. As a result of things being wetted down, restrictions on travel and activities on the woods have been lifted as of this morning with the exception of Shelburne County.
The Province is lifting restrictions on travel and activities in the woods in all areas except for Shelburne County and anywhere evacuation orders are in place, effective 12:01 a.m., Monday, June 5.
“We know that using our woods and trails are important to many Nova Scotians’ physical and mental health,” said Tory Rushton, Minister of Natural Resources and Renewables. “Thanks to the weather, conditions have improved in the province, but we still need be cautious. We are keeping the burn ban in place and asking people to continue to be responsible while enjoying the outdoors.”
Activities that are now permitted include hiking, camping, fishing and the use of vehicles in the woods. The provincewide burn ban is still in place. The fine for violating the ban is $25,000.

Now for those of us that were looking forward to the free fishing weekend, since it was cancelled this past weekend, we just need to keep our fingers crossed that we will continue to get sufficient rainfall so it can be rescheduled.
Sportfishing Weekends
Due to the wildfire situation, all fishing derbies and other events to promote the free fishing weekend planned for Saturday-Sunday, June 3-4 are cancelled. Anglers are encouraged to stay home and stay safe this weekend. We will look at other opportunities to promote sportfishing and its benefits at a later time.
Biggest thing to remember with whatever you are doing, be careful and don’t do anything that could cause anything to burn.
