Mahone Bay To Elect New Councilor in November

The Town of Mahone Bay will hold a special council election this month to fill the seat vacated by Councilor Alice Burdick.

The two candidates vying for the seat are Suzanne Lohnes Croft and Bryan Palfreyman.

Lohnes Croft will be well known to residents having served as Lunenburg’s MLA from 2013 to 2021, during which time she was appointed as a Minister for various provincial departments.

Palfreyman has also been involved in the community for many years, serving on various boards of community organizations including the Mahone Bay Centre and the Mahone Island Conservation Association.

Prior to that Palfreyman spent most of his career as the Legislative and Regulatory Policy Director for BMO.

Advanced in-person polling will take place at the Mahone Bay Fire Hall on November 19 and 22, from noon until 8:00 p.m., then normal voting day will take place there on November 26 from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Additionally, a mobile poll will be set up at Mahone Nursing Home, 640 Main St, Mahone Bay for residents only on Saturday, November 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Alternative Voting

As in the 2020 Municipal Election, the Town of Mahone Bay will be using Alternative Voting for this election, meaning votes will be cast by phone or internet. A detailed list of instructions will be forwarded to the public via Canada Post.

Those who need assistance can call election staff at 902-521-0209 or can attend one of the polling stations for assistance and the use of an internet-connected tablet to vote.
