In this year’s budget, the Town of Lunenburg indicated they would be creating a strategy to offload some of their real estate portfolio and they have just listed the third property since making those plans known.
The latest property the town is looking to sell is 17 Tannery Road, which contains the Old New Town School referred to as the Annex.
Town staff are now in the process of subdividing the lot so that they can retain portions of the existing property while selling off the portion that contains the Annex.
The property is currently zoned as general industrial, meaning it could be suitable for a variety of businesses. However, although the land is not in Lunenburg’s Heritage Conservation District, the Annex is a registered municipal heritage property, meaning there are limitations to what can be done to it.
The building had most recently been leased by NSCC, who have since vacated the property.
The other two assets the town are looking to sell include five plots of land on Upper King Street, which they hope to sell to a housing developer, and a plot of industrial land on Hall Street.
