The president of the Maritime Junior Hockey League is happy to see familiar faces in charge of the Yarmouth Mariners.
Troy Dumville is sharing his thoughts on the recent sale of the team from Mitch Bonnar to Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron, assistant coaches John Murphy and Jared Purdy, and local lawyer Alex Pink.
Dumville is also new on the job, having taken over as president of the MHL at the start of June. He has a long history with the league as a coach, general manager and owner.
He says he knows Barron from coaching and is excited to work with him.
“I trust Laurie Barron and his willingness to get involved and bring good people with him so, so far so good,” “I’m excited for the franchise. The fishtank was always an intimidating, packed rink and I know they want to get back to those days.”
He also thanked Mitch Bonnar for his work getting the franchise to where it is today.
Dumville says Bonnar helped the franchise when it wasn’t at its best.
“The community and the team owe him a lot of thanks for getting them to the point where Laurie Barron and those guys could come in and buy the team. He’s left it in great shape, they’re not walking into a situation where the team is in trouble. They’re actually walking into a healthy franchise.”
The new owners are planning to build on that success by developing a new ticket price structure, to make it more equitable.
