Grief counsellors and additional staff will be at Bluenose Academy and Greenfield Elementary over the coming days as the community grapples with news of a fire that took the lives of a woman and three children.
Kaylea Savory, a teaching assistant at Bluenose Academy, and three children passed away in the fire on Upper Branch Road in Auburndale on early Feb. 19.
Principal of Bluenose Academy, Jennifer McMullen, confirmed that two of the children, Hendrix and Harley Savory, in grades three and six, were students at the school.
The third child was a grade four student at Greenfield elementary.
The South Shore Regional Centre for Education encourages parents to talk with their children about the tragedy before sending them to school on Tuesday.
Grief counsellors will be at the school for as long as they’re needed; parents are encouraged to reach out to the school if they need additional support or resources.
GoFundMe campaign
A GoFundMe campaign has raised over $51,000 for Savory’s family.
The fundraiser page is organized by long-time family friend, Dianna Francis, who says she hopes the money can ease the financial stress the unexpected tragedy will have on the family.
As of 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, $54,765 has been raised.
Over 627 people have donated.
