Merydie Ross is the NPD candidate running in the riding of Lunenburg West.
Ross who has lived and volunteered in the area for most of her life has a passion for community development and has professionally worked on social, economic, and environmental development projects.
She said the number one issue she’s hearing from her constituents is the shortage of physicians.
Ross says in addition to recruiting more doctors, there needs to be more doctors assistants and nurse practitioners take stress of the health care system.
“If you just need something simple like a prescription refill, you can talk to your physician’s assistant,” explained Ross. “If they look at your chart and they say ‘you know what, you need to see your doctor about this issue,’ your doctor is going to be freed up to give you the care that you need when you need it.”
She added that the NDP is also committed to establishing emergency mental health crisis teams, and providing same day and next day mental health appointments.
She said to improve the housing crisis, the NDP plans to implement rent control as soon as possible.
“There are so many individuals who I speak who are sharing with me that if they are lucky enough to be housed, they can’t afford a rental increase,” said Ross “We need to make sure that for the population that is housed, that we keep them in their homes because there is a homelessness crisis.”
Ross is running against against Liberal candidate Jennifer Naugler, PC Becky Druhan and Green candidate Eric Wade in Lunenburg West.
