Nolan Young is the PC candidate running in the riding of Shelburne.
Young is teacher at NSCC and former town councilor and Deputy Mayor for the Town of Shelburne.
He believes the healthcare crisis is the largest issue on the minds of his constituents.
“There’s a lot of people without doctors, there’s times when you need to get a prescription and you can’t get it because you don’t have a doctor, then you have to go to the ER and that puts strain on the whole system,” explained Young.
Young adds that the province needs more doctors, ambulances and long term care beds to improve the healthcare situation.
“Roseway is closed it seems more often then it’s open these days and when there’s no ambulances in the area, it’s scary,” said Young. “There’s a lot of people that are aging in the area that are really dependent on having these services.”
Young also said he wants to stand up and be a voice for seniors in the community.
He explained that another top issue being faced by the residents of Shelburne County is the current housing situation.
“We know that we have people that are living on couches, we know that we have people staying with family, there’s renovictions and stuff that are happening,” said Young.
He said the PC’s plan to tackle the housing issue by taking an inventory of provincially owned land that can be used for development in hopes of attracting developers.
Young is running against Liberal candidate Penny Smith, NDP candidate Darren Stoddard and Steve Hirchak who is running for the Green Party in the riding of Shelburne.
