NDP candidate Mary Dahr is running in the riding of Queens.
With approximately 30 years of experience working in the medical field as a laboratory technician and 20 years of involvement with the NDP caucus, she said she is ready to promote change.
Dahr said she is concerned about high rate of child poverty in Queens County.
She stated that the child poverty rate in Queens is 29%.
“That can be changed,” explained Dahr. “The NDP does have a very strong platform on taking care of our children and making sure their not going to bed hungry at night.”
She believes that climate change is a serious issue that need’s to be addressed.
“The droughts, the storms, and also just our environment,” said Dahr, “In our platform we address fish farms and clear cutting on crown land, which some parties may shy away from.”
Dahr said she also recognizes the ongoing health care crisis in the province and added the NDP have a 62 page platform to address issues with emergency care, mental health, and long term care.
“It’s about a five part plan,” Said Dahr.
Dahr acknowledged the NDP’s plan to combat the provinces housing crisis.
“They announced that they are going to do a thousand affordable housing units right away, and they are also going to fix housing units,” explained Dahr.
Dahr is running against PC incumbent Kim Masland, the Liberal’s Susan MacLeod and Green Party candidate Brian Muldoon in the newly named riding of Queens.
