The province saw an increase in charges for stunting and impaired driving in the month of June.
The Nova Scotia RCMP have released last months statistics for the two charges.
RCMP Public Information Officer Cpl. Chris Marshall explains why the numbers up.
“COVID-19 restrictions are beginning to ease. People are starting to hit the road again after some time since they have last been out on the road,” says Marshall. “I don’t think there has been a major disparity between May and June but the numbers are certainly up a little bit which is always concerning.”
In June, 25 drivers were charged with stunting, an increase of 13 since May.
A total of 135 impaired driving charges were laid, 25 more than May.
Marshall says the numbers can increase over the summer months.
“We see a larger influx of tourists and those kinds of things, given last year, especially with the way it was with the Atlantic bubble, tourism was kind of down so we weren’t seeing as many people on the roads,” says Marshall. “With COVID-19 restrictions easing we’re beginning to see that there is certainly more traffic on the roads than there has been over the last month or so.”
