A farm outside of Blockhouse is in need of a few local volunteers to help with their therapeutic riding program.
Hitchinbrook Farm is putting out a call for volunteers after the latest round of restrictions related to COVID-19 limited travel in and out of Halifax.
Spokesperson David Friendly says they are in need of people over 19 and no horse riding experience is necessary.
“We do need up to five adult volunteers that are available on Tuesday’s or Wednesday’s and are willing to commit a half day a week. Really that’s all we are asking our volunteers to do in order to get these kids or young adults back into their afternoon programs,” he explained.
The farm was started in 2007 to provide therapeutic riding for families and children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
“Any volunteers can’t have allergies to horses, hay or shavings because it would make them uncomfortable,” Friendly said. “These volunteers also need their own transportation as we don’t have the means to pick people up.”
Anyone interested in volunteering at the farm can find more information on the Hitchinbrook Farm web page.
