An animal shelter in Lunenburg County has been forced to cancel a major fundraiser for the second consecutive year.
SHAID Tree Animal Shelter will not host its big Yard Sale again this year due to COVID-19 and social distancing concerns.
The event has been a tremendous success over the years and the biggest fundraiser for the shelter on an annual basis.
Manager Kelly Inglis says it’s disappointing but they are bringing back their lottery to make up for it.
“We were lucky enough to come up with the SHAID Tree lottery and it went over super for it being our first year, ” she explained. “It was so successful we are doing it again this year and it did cover the cost of the loss of the yard sale.”
The Shelter is still working to determine what the big prize will be for the lottery but Inglis assures everyone it will be an item the community will get excited over the chance to win.
Adoptions
SHAID has kept busy throughout the pandemic and they have a lengthy wait list for adoptions especially for new kittens.
“We’ve been busy all year round and non-stop throughout the pandemic and with kitten season coming up in the spring we do have long waiting lists for adoptable kittens,” Inglis said. “We don’t anticipate any trouble with helping re-home as many kittens as we possibly can.”
Inglis adds it’s been wonderful to see so many of their animals find new homes and commended the community for stepping up.
