In a statement on their Facebook page Monday morning, the Bluenose II announced that they have made the decision to return to Lunenburg because of the potential effects of Hurricane Isaias.
The statement said that even though the storm has moved west, the effects from the hurricane will still be felt while at sea with a larger than normal sea swell and potentially strong wind gusts.
“With this in mind, we have made the difficult decision to return to Lunenburg today, as the safety of our crew is our top priority. This means we will not be able to continue with our regular schedule, but we will be re-working the schedule as soon as possible.”
The ship, under the command of Captain Phil Watson, was on a Sail Past Summer tour of 26 Nova Scotia communities and parts of the coast of New Brunswick and P-E-I.
Visitors on board ship and traditional harbour cruises have both been put on hold because of the pandemic.
