Wilford Brimley, a well-known character actor and singer died Saturday at the age of 85.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah Brimley spent some time in the Marines before trying his hand as a movie stuntman and then as an actor.
Over his long career he acted in both film and television, including the movies True Grit (1969), The Thing (1982) and Cocoon (1985), but is probably best known for the series of Quaker Oats ads he did in the 80s and 90s.
His last appearance on film was in Timber The Treasure Dog (2016).
Brimley lived with Diabetes for many years and was in the ICU at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife Beverly Berry and four children.
