Construction on Lunenburg County’s new municipal building has slowed but staff assure everything is still on schedule.
Due to personnel change with the company supplying the building’s trusses, some work on the new Municipality of the District of Lunenburg building had to start over.
Mayor Carolyn Bolivar-Getson said even with the delay, the building is still on schedule to open.
“Stage two is in place, boarded in and ready for stage three, which they are now in the process of approving,”
“We are still expecting a spring opening but its too early to decide a final date.”
She said they had hoped the building would be weather tight by winter, but work will continue until it is finished.
The new building was approved earlier this year to replace the current municipal building, which does not meet National Building Code or Nova Scotia’s Accessibility Act requirements.
Bolivar-Getson said the building will not put the municipality in debt or raise taxes to cover costs.
“Previous and current councils had set funds aside for this project for many years,” she said.
“The Municipality continues to be on track to be debt free by 2021.”
