First responders will be honoured with a monument next to the EHS base in Bridgewater.
Heritage Landscaping has been working over the last two weeks to build the structure and walking paths and planting some trees and bushes at First Responders Park.
The idea first came to landlord Don Abbey during renovations to the EHS property in 2017.
After speaking with the Town of Bridgewater and EHS and leasing land from Parkbridge Communities, the thought is coming to reality and is a small token of appreciation.
“Around the world, there are some absolutely horrific things that first responders see, go to, live with after and some of them even lose their lives,” says Abbey.
“It’s just our way of saying thanks and we have the opportunity. It’s a great spot. I think it’s a good news story and we’re just pleased, proud and humbled to have that chance.”
The project should be finished between the middle and end of September.
Meanwhile, the western region manager for EHS says they’re privileged to see a monument in part of their honour.
It also says thank you to firefighters and police.
Greg Wolfe says the monument speaks to the importance of first responders and their role in the community.
“It will be a very pleasing reminder to not only our staff as they conduct their roles on a daily basis, but the general public as they drive by it or walk by it or maybe even sit in the park when it is completed for some reflection time.”
Wolfe says from a paramedic point of view, the park is well thought out and will be seen in the community for decades.
He adds feedback from paramedics has been positive and he looks forward to seeing the finished project.
