AED’s or Automated External Defibrillators, are portable devices that analyze and identify heart rhythms and advises the rescuer of the need for defibrillation and delivers a shock if needed.
Mike Janczyszyn, the EHS AED Registry Coordinator tells Acadia News public education and promotion are two of the pillars of the program.
“We want people to be familiar with how do to CPR and we want people to be familiar with AED’s. You’ll see Superstore has an AED, you’ll see Sobeys has an AED, Mariners Centre has one.”
EHS has now launched an enhanced registry designed to enable an online and more automated approach to tracking and notifications for maintenance and expiries for the units.
He says the goal is to make everything accessible through a program called AED Link.
“We want to link the cardiac arrest patients with bystanders, with the communication centre and the AED itself.”
Janczyszyn and Colton LeBlanc, Medical First Responder Facilitator, made a presentation last night to Argyle Municipal Council.
