A local teen’s work to clean up the LaHave is being recognized outside of our borders.
Because of Stella Bowles efforts, all levels of government have come on board to stop straight pipes from dumping sewage into the LaHave river.
She has just received the Gloria Barron award which celebrates inspiring, public-spirited young people from diverse backgrounds across North America.
Bowles is overwhelmed.
“I have no words for it. It’s awesome. I’m so happy,” says Bowles.
Each year, 25 people from across North America receive the $5,000 prize.
Bowles says the money will be going into her college education fund.
