The Lunenburg Yacht Club is preparing to host the World Sonar Championship and Women’s National Keelboat Championship next month.
The federal government is doing its part to help.
South Shore – St. Margaret’s MP, Bernadette Jordan, announced $155,000 towards infrastructure improvements and marketing costs.
Thanks to @BernJordanMP @SuzanneLCNS @sailcanada and everyone who came out today. We can’t wait to host you and @SonarClass in Sept! pic.twitter.com/qgrtSBRnUT

Commodore of the Lunenburg Yacht Club, Michael O’Connor, says the money will help the work get finished.
“To provide a wharf with a crane that’s capable of lifting up to 10,000 pounds and to install a proper launch ramp for launching boats that are on trailers.”
There will also be an area created to store boats when the club hosts regattas.
The $450,000 project also received money through the province and membership fundraising.
O’Connor says they bought the property for the new project about nine years ago.
“It enabled us to, we feel, provide services that we believe the community wants and make us more attractive as an area for people to come and live and play.”
Forty-five boats, from several different countries, are expected to participate in the two events.
The World Sonar Championship will be held September 6-10 and the Women’s National Keelboat Championship is scheduled for September 13-17.
