A two-time councillor and former provincial MLA will replace Don Downe as the new mayor for the Municipality of Lunenburg.
Carolyn Bolivar-Getson is the mayor-elect after edging Tom Lockwood by 154 votes in last night’s election.
She received received 4,256 votes ahead of Lockwood’s 4,102.
Bolivar-Getson says she is excited and happy by the results.
“There is a lot of emotions right now, a lot of emotions. We worked hard for this and I’m so glad that it’s paid off for everybody.”
Bolivar-Getson will have experience on her side as eight incumbents were re-elected.
Eric Hustvedt, Martin Bell, Lee Nauss, John Veinot, Cathy Moore, Claudette Garland, Michael Ernst and Errol Knickle won their districts.
Reid Whynot and former municipal politician Wade Carver will be part of the new council that is sworn-in on November 8.
Downe decided not to re-offer after serving two terms as mayor, choosing instead to retire and spend more time with his wife and grandchildren.
